Principal's Message

Dear Phillips Families,

I hope everyone had a great Spring Break, full of time with family and friends! We are gearing up for all of the Spring and end of year activities coming up. Third through sixth grade students will be taking the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) beginning this week. Please encourage your children to do their best work on this assessment of their knowledge of the Common Core Standards. This is the first year that the data will actually come back to us as a school so that we can share with parents how students are doing on this end of year assessment. For testing security, students need to leave cell phones in their backpacks if they have them at school (this is true at all times, but especially important during this testing time). If any student has their cell phone out at school during this time, we will take it and hang on to it here in the office until the grade level has completed testing. Thank you for your help with this and for supporting our Phillips students as they show what they know!

On another note, the Phillips Family Faculty Club will be looking for a co-President for the 2015-2016 school year to take over for outgoing President, Ligia Navarette, when her last child transitions out of Phillips at the end of next year. This will allow a one year overlap for the outgoing and incoming Presidents. The PFC is looking for a motivated individual to join their team.  If you are someone who would like to take on this leadership role and strengthen our school community, please check in with me or Lupita Melgoza in our Family Resource Center. Posters will be on display around campus to advertise the position. We have an amazing team of parents on our PFC who take pride in the school and care about Phillips students! All parents are encouraged to participate and join the team!

Sincerely,

Mr. Manning

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT
