Principal's Message

Dear Phillips Families,

First, I want to thank everyone for pulling together to support one another and to support the Bunker family through this challenging time. We are all saddened by the loss of Mr. Bunker and I am personally thankful that we as a community were able to have him here at Phillips for even a short time to learn from him and with him and benefit from his kindness and ability to inspire students to achieve to their full potential. Again, we will be honoring Mr. Bunker in some way this year and are working as a team to determine how best to do that.

On another note, I would like to thank everyone who attended the Phillips Town Hall Meeting last month. It was a huge success with over 140 participants. We generated some great ideas for improving the neighborhood and providing needed services to families. Many of the officials who can help us strengthen the Phillips neighborhood were in the room and were able to hear the voices of our families and students. All of the information has been synthesized and shared with me and our Family Resource Center staff. We will be sharing this information at another Town Hall Meeting in the next month or so and putting together task forces to take on some of the initiatives that will require political action. We will keep everyone informed of next steps.

Finally, we are looking forward to the second trimester "Celebration of Learning" on March 10th from 6:00-7:00. Students did an amazing job last trimester in conveying their learning and their goals to parents. They were very excited to share their classrooms and what they have been working on. Now that we are further into the year, they will have even more to share! I look forward to seeing everyone then.

Mr. Manning
